2014 SVRA Vintage Nationals Coverage Part 1: The Cars

This weekend I had the pleasure of attending the SVRA U.S. Vintage Nationals at Circuit of the Americas. Over 600 race-ready machines competed, from a 1935 Indy racer to a 2006 NASCAR cup car. Wet weather postponed some of the events on Saturday, but otherwise it was a non-stop wonderland of speed and heritage. In this post I'll specifically focus on the actual competition cars, while the car show and miscellaneous paddock vehicles will be looked at later on. There were some truly incredible vehicles in attendance, including the Historic Trans-Am class that made a special appearance. Lolas and Chevrons did battle with Elvas and Devins. Mustangs fought Cobras, Porsches competed against Alfa Romeos, and LMP prototypes shared the track with open-wheel F1 cars. Off the track, spectators had full access to the pit and paddock, which I took advantage of as much as possible. It was a glorious celebration of power and noise, and I'll definitely be going again next year. Until then, enjoy these photos from the weekend.
